King E-4 to F-3 ..

I left this move at the other spot too .....

It was thinking of moving the H-pawn just like i would have done then
changed his mind and was going to move King to D-3 then changed his mind
again to the F-3 move that it made. 6 min of thinking on those 3
moves......

I would have to count the moves but if ivan moves king to g-3 or 4
then h-pawn to 4 then bishop takes pawn , king takes bishop then king to
g-4 then king takes pawn...Ivans moves .
But all the while ivan is making those moves , GC is moving his king
c-3 to d-4 then of course has to move his bishop to take the pawn ,
but then he can take B-5 pawn ....

You want to call this game a draw or keep playing it out ? Id like to
keep playing and see what happens ..What do you want to do ?

GetClub is playing clueless. Now It will keep playing king & Bishop
without any solution.

It thought for 20 min on this move and played the worst move possible.
Looks like IVAN will win this game because of poor end game of
GetClub.

Ivans move King F-3 to G-4

Yes GC's move was bad , i have no idea how hard it is to program
software but you should spend a day or two on his end game ..Or does it
takes weeks ???

GC dropped from + 2.5 or so down to I.3 so that means ivan thinks he
is coming back in this game ..

You want to call this game a draw ?

i think ivans next few moves will be H-5 to h-4 , bishop takes pawn ,
king takes bishop then king to go after gc F-4 pawn then king move and
drive the F-5 pawn to a queen ..

Let me know what you think ..

I have had fun playing this game , both computers are pretty = , they
both make mistakes ...I think ivan defended really well from the
eleventh move on ...

I would like to have a rematch some time down the road , maybe with GC's
strongest level ..
Is GC's strongest level a little better in the end game ?

If you say draw then what i am going to do is play the game out and see
what happens , maybe ask helpbot to play GC's position and see what
happens ......

But if you want to finish this game we can do that too ..GC's move
......

This game IVAN will win as after the Bishop is killed IVAN can take
the (f4) pawn and get a Queen and I think GetClub will keep its king
in that corner till it has to resign.

End Game is very weak for all levels. GetClub is only good in Middle

It appears that Black will play ...Kg4, ...h4,
...KxB, ...Kg4, ...Kxf4, and go on to Queen
the f-pawn.

still it will take many moves to checkmate gc.

I am not ready to say ivan is stronger than GC .....I do not think
one game is sufficient enough to make that judgment ....

Both have made a lot of mistakes in this game.....

I think ivan's opening sucked and then the blunder , then some of
the moves in the end game could have cost it the game...

what i think will happen is GC moves the king , ivan takes the bishop ,
then gc moves the king and ivan takes F-4 pawn then gc moves the king
and ivan moves the queen then gc moves the king and ivan drives the
F-pawn to another queen then soon checkmate.....?

I think GetClub outplayed Ivan in the middle game, I took GetClubs postition
at move 48 and gave chessmaster at it's best game Ivans and won easily
despite being a much weaker player then CM. I know you've mentioned
GetClubs endgame wasn't too good. I didn't realize that Ivans wasn't very
good either until I looked over the last 10 moves or so. Being a programmer
myself I'm fairly impressed with GetClub, it plays better then anything I'd
write. Ivan on the other hand is a commercial product, I expected more of
it's end game.

Could they play better if they opened different ? It seemed to me

Yes the game was improved in end game a bit, may be now it works
better. But only on real testing it would be seen.

GetClub resigned as it saw a forced Mate.

For the new game Should I take White? Or Black. If White then I will
tell my move. And if Black please tell your move.

I'd like to see this too, my main interest in the thread was I was
considering buying Ivan, I still might. I was looking for something to play

I think GetClubs 2 main areas of improvement would be to first get it to
recognize all the rules if it doesn't already (I saw another thread mention
it doesn't comply with the 3 repetition draw.) More work on the end game
could only improve it, in this game it gave away a won position in the end
game. As to how long it would take I couldn't make a reasonable guess, I
have no clue how structured it's code is, if it is structured it would be
easier. I also don't know how Sanny would approach improving it's end game,
whether it would be feasable to add common end game sinto the existing
program or to write a specialized end game engine to kick in once an
appropriate position has been reach. Of course that also leaves the issue
of when the program decides it's "appropriate" to switch to its end game
engine.

I could try it against Fritz 9, I don't have 10. I noticed a site that lets
me play against shredder, I could try CM there too. When I do I'll let you
know the results. I haven't played CM against any other programs yet, only
against itself as different "personalitys." I doubt the GM personalitys are
too accurate though, in a 6 game match playing Bobby Fischer against Arron
Nimzovich who ever had white always won. I may be wrong, but I think if
such a match were possible between those 2 players Fischer would win more
frequently. Even assuming equal skill, Fischer had the adavantage many more
decades of opening theory to draw upon. I'd guess the engine is only trying
to emulate style and not changes in chess theory from the time periods of
the GMs.

I'll be replacing my computer in about 2 months and am curious to see how
the increase in processing power reslects in it's play.

I look forward to seeing other GC/Ivan games, but would reccomend moving the
postings to rec.games.chess.computer where they are more on topic instead of
here in rec.games.chess.misc where they've drawn some ire.

Ok on moving to the chess computer discussions board ...I am sure Sanny
will be OK with it too..

DO NOT BUY IVAN , well if you do take it out of the box and read the
instructions and see if you can get ivan to the strongest level ..
And if the guy will not let you then keep your recept and as soon as you
get it home see if you can get i to the strongest level and if you can
not , take it back the next day ..
I got my ivan really cheap because the store was going out of business
..They were practically giving them away ..20 $ or so ..

I am supposed to have ivan 2 and i have always thought i have ivan one
.My instructions say ivan should get too TH225 for the strongest level
BUT it only go's too THI45 ..That number is not even i the manul ..
I have had ivan for a few years and so i called Florida and the
sticker and serial number both match ivan 2 but why not the instructions
? They did not have a answer so i sent it all the way to Florida and
their tech guy looked at it and could not figure it out either so they
sent i back ..

I have THI45 is the highest i can go BUT here is what the instructions
say ....I will start with the 4's strongest level and go UP ..
THI30 , THI55 , TH200 , and TH225 ....
Now see my ivan number is not even in the instructions .?????
This has always bugged me especially when i started playing computer vs
